Q. Who are we?
We are a music preparation company.
"Lead Sheet Take Down Service" will:
• provide a music transcription service.
• convert mp3 to sheet music.
• transcribe .wav files and midi files to
sheet music.
But note:
• We will not violate the copyright
protection of songs created by or
controlled by another party.
* * *
Q. How much does it cost?
It depends.
• Lead sheet — If the end product desired is a lead sheet (namely: melody, lyrics, chords), then, to do a lead sheet for a song of average length, or average complexity, we quote a range: $50 to $100. We won't know what fee to set until after we hear the song, and judge its length, and its complexity.
• Non-lead sheet — Doing a transcription of a solo piece is entirely different, and will be in the neighborhood of $200 to $400 for a 3-minute song. It depends. Again, we cannot confirm a price until after we hear the song. — How long is it? How easy/hard is it to hear the individual notes?
• Handwritten score -- Converting from paper is different. If you have a handwritten pencil score, and need it converted into individual parts ready for studio musicians to sight read, then that would be straight "music copyist" work, and the fee would be based on the number of instruments or the number of staves multiplied by the number of measures. Ask for an estimate.
• MIDI -- Transcribing from a MIDI file is easy. If you record your song on a MIDI keyboard or a MIDI guitar, then you've cut our work in half. Ask for an estimate for converting a MIDI file into sheet music.
To repeat:The estimate is free.
We do not charge for listening and evaluating. Once you get our
estimate, you are free to green-light the project, or walk away.

Q. What are the steps?
(1.) You send.
(2.) We listen.
(3.) You and I agree.
(4.) We transcribe.
(5.) We send.
The steps are easy:
• Get the song or the score to us.
(E-mail attachments are okay.)
Our order form asks for the pertinent information,
like copyright year and copyright holder, and
words and music by. We listen and evaluate the song.
We will tell you the fee. You approve the fee. Note that
a deposit will be required.
• We transcribe the handwritten score or
the audio file into sheet music, or as a
full score and parts.
• We send you the final copy, as a .pdf file,
or as a .mus (Finale) file, or in any other
format.
And you're done!
You now have a final product you can print out, whenever you wish,
as many times as you wish. And you can use one copy to
register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office.

Q. How fast is the turn-around time?
That depends.
• To give you our estimate of the fee, after hearing and evaluating
your recording — that can be done within 24 hours. But we push to get
out the estimate quickly.
• To finish the project -- that will depend on the length and complexity
of the song or score, as well as how many clients are ahead of you
in our queue.
• Rush jobs — For a fee, we can put your project at the top of our queue.
Expect to pay double the normal fee.

Ready to Start?
Our preferred e-mail address is: info@LeadSheet.biz
Click here if you are ready to send us your lyric sheet,
your chord chart, and your mp3 or .wav or MIDI file.
(Or a scan of your handwritten score)
• If your recording is a small file, then you may e-mail the recording as an attachment.
• If your recording is greater in size than 2 or 3 megabytes ("MB"), then use one of the
popular upload/download services. We regularly use "You Send It" and "Send Space"
or "Send Stuff Now". But other services should be fine, too.
• Consider putting all 3 items in one folder, too, for convenience sake. Purely optional.

For songwriters
Besides a recording (that is, your "demo"), your portfolio ought to contain your music credits (like a resumé), and your lead sheets, showing the lyrics and melody and chord changes.
We can make your lead sheets look like store-bought sheet music!
For bands
If you are selling your individual mp3 files on-line to your fan base, you can also sell your merchandise likewise. One piece of merchandise you can sell is your sheet music, so that your fans can pick up their guitar and play along. Go ahead and sell the sheet music in tandem with your mp3, or better, give away the sheet music as a bonus/"free gift with purchase".

For composers/arrangers
Once you have completed your handwritten score, or once you have created a multi-track MIDI file with a part on every track, you must then create legible individual parts for the band or studio musicians, in the proper key and proper clef.
Once we input the score into a computer, we will produce all the parts.
Don't you lift a pencil a second time! No need to copy anything by hand!
For singers
If you have sheet music or scores in the "wrong" key for your voice, and need it transposed up/down, then a music copyist or arranger can write out the accompaniment in the new key.
We can change the key for you, fast!
Sing it in F today, sing it in G tomorrow!

Q. Does Lead Sheet Take Down Service
do arranging or orchestrating?
A. Yes.

score for jazz band
To your left is a score for 17-piece jazz band we did.
I love the sound of a live Big Band! Over the years, we've done countless jazz band arrangements.
Likewise: marching band arrangements for high schools.
Interesting historical note: The transcriber who created these arrangements
(Victor Rodriquez) was a member of the U.S.C. Trojan Marching Band in 1979
(alto saxophone) and he was there when Fleetwood Mac recorded the TMB for
the song "Tusk."
Likewise for church service, we've done hundreds of worship-leader arrangements, using popular Contemporary Christian songs. But we've also done classical, too, e.g., Vivaldi's "Et in terra pax" for Christmas service.
